Abstract

The paper presents the results of an empirical researches of value orientations features of the Chernobyl accident's liquidators. To the basic group were included 176 employees of Ministry of Internal Affairs, who took part in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident in 1986 - 1990, to the control group were included 129 employees of Ministry of Internal Affairs, who did not take part in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident. For a complex research of value orientations of liquidators of the Chernobyl accident in the remote period after the accident, we have used the following psychodiagnostical tools : test «Value orientations» by M.Rokycha; Valuable questionnaire by S.Schwartz; «Morphological test of value orientations» by V.Sopova and L.Karpushin. Our empirical study consisted of two phases: Phase I – identifying features of the system of value orientations of the Chernobyl accident's liquidators (by identifying statistically significant difference between results of main and control groups). Phase II – the definition of specific components of values of the Chernobyl accident's liquidators (by using factor analysis). After using the factor analysis method was identified four specific system components of value orientations of liquidators of the Chernobyl accident, namely value orientations, aimed at achieving peace and security, value orientations, aimed at achieving the effective and professional daily activities, value orientations aimed at achieving high level of self-development. Results of empirical studies show that the Chernobyl disaster significantly transformed the system of value orientations of liquidators.
