Radchuk H., head of the department of practical psychology of Volodymyr Hnatiuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University, Doctor of Psychology, Professor.

Abstract

The article deals with a cultural-psychological approach and its direction towards holistic personal development as a methodological foundation for educational transformations. It is emphasized, that education is dominated by an inclination towards social experience, rather than culture. Social experience is embedded into educational process and is, in its transformed state, presented in the content of education. Based on the theoretical analysis of cultural-psychological approach in the context of personality development in educational environment, the author concluded that human cultural being is a system forming component of their holistic life activities. Education is a complicated cultural process which is driven by personal meanings, dialogue and collaboration of its actors to achieve their cultural self-development goals. It is concluded that education is a dynamic cultural environment where one can find life meanings and universalize values. Education is aimed at creation of opportunities for realization of one’s subjectivity. Based on the described ideas of cultural approach in psychology and pedagogy the main principles for personality development in educational context were identified: 1) a person is a subject of culture, life creation and individual development; 2) education is a dynamic environment where one can find life meanings and universalize values; 3) education plays an important role in creating opportunities for realization of one’s subjectivity and motivation for personal growth and cultural development.
